Been roaming Rome for the past couple of days and my legs are begging me to stop walking! It's truly summer here and the crowds are out anywhere and everywhere soaking up the rays, indulging in pizza and gelato, and taking in the sights. It's been a bit of a whirlwind two days and we're off to Florence tomorrow on an early train so I really should sleep soon but thought I'd leave you with a few piccies...
We started our first day at St Peter's Basilica and met with a crowd, including numerous couples in bridal attire, off to see the Pope!

Onward to the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel and I spotted this shadow of a lampost which I thought was pretty cool, against the orange walls which seem to be popular throughout the city.

I'm not quite sure who this one is, one of the many sculptures that dot the paths winding throughout Rome.

Our breath was taken away by the intricacy and beauty of the Sistine Chapel. I had seen the ceiling before in my younger years as I travelled with my parents but it was really interesting to see it in new light, and to try and pick out all the tiny details woven into the masterpiece. This is the view just before we descend the stairs from the museum.

Trivia #1 - Is the hole in the ceiling of the Pantheon covered in glass? If not...what happens when it rains?

The Trevi Fountain. PACKED with tourists but we found a spot with a nice view. The view also happened to be good luck as well as I sat enjoying my slice of pizza I turned to Joel and exclaimed 'Hey! Someone just pelted something at me!'. Turned out to be a fat plop of bird poo. Lesson #2: Do not sit under lampposts. (For those who missed out, lesson #1 was not to wear thongs in the fish market).

Trivia #2: There are many small drinking fountains with free flowing icy cool water throughout the city. Where does this water come and go? Why is it so cool and pure tasting? And how come nobody minds that you can't turn these taps off!!
And to finish off...just because this display was cool. I don't remember which designer they belong to.

Arrivedeci!
