Last Days
We’re home sweet home right now, Joel’s cooking up a sizzle on the bbq and it’s so good to be back. We came home to a delightfully retouched apartment – a new easel, improved storage, a much needed new beanbag, orchids and lillies, and a mini little herb garden on our balcony. Jeannie is the best house-sitter ever, thank you soooo much!!!
The to do list is pretty scary right now but I’m determined to knock it over and get back on track over the next few weeks, starting with this last instalment of travel photos *sigh!* We really took it easy over the last little leg in San Fran, gift shopping, eating comfort food at numerous Chinese and Thai joints, and breaking it up with fat fluffy pancakes at diners in between. I think two months is an excellent time to be away and really feel away from the demands of daily life but also long enough to really really look forward to that flight home (and Qantas is still the best airline ever).
We departed LA and head out to Solvang to meet Jose Villa, one of my most favourite photographers ever. I don’t think I need to explain why, you’ll just need to check out his stuff here if you aren’t in love with it already. I had arranged for him to do a photoshoot for us since we were already on his side of the world, and can’t wait to see the results. He also makes you feel like owning way too many old school cameras just because. Here he is making a quick detour for garbonzo beans that are apparantly hard to get and only for sale in August…they must taste good because he looks very happy!!

We stayed the night at Santa Maria in (very comfy beds) and woke up to a fresh pot of Seattle’s Best which was rather yummy. Joel decided he was sick of wearing boring clothes so decided to dress up….the coastal road from LA to San Fran was beautiful, only hampered by the stubborn fog that refused to move!

Managed to catch a rare snap when the fog lifted, thought this coast was sooo gorgeous.

Saw these by the roadside and had to snap….

Me loves the countryside!

Pfieffer beach with it’s purple sand…

A funny chinaman on a San Fran street repeating in a singsong voice ‘happy, ha-ppy, haaaapeeee!’!

Decided to trip out to Napa Valley for our last day. We had breakfast at the diner around the corner and found out that the trusty corolla we had reserved had already been given away unexpectedly and so we had to upgrade to the mustang which Joel was secretly rather happy about….

Look at my farmer boy!

This stuff was yummy and came in pretty retro bottles…we had our first proper wine tasting at the Villa Sattui property and it was rather fun (and also ended up expensive) and the deli and picnic grounds complemented our last lazy day perfectly.

This just reminds me of Full House….I miss those days!

Well that’s all folks, feels a little anticlimactic to end like this but maybe I’ll pepper a few later posts with anything good from the film sets that we get back. In the meantime, enjoy this beautiful weekend in Sydney – the weather is just gorgeous today and I’m so glad to call this home!
