Mario, I'd foremost recommend checking out Venice Beach, the obligatory Hollywood Blvd, eating steak quesadillas at Sharkies and blading/cycling up the beaches....check out a Lakers game if the matchup is good.....if you're adventurous, stick a yellow flag out your jeans and walk through Compton at dusk.
I checked out the Summer League down in Long Beach while I was there, since the NBA season wasn't going...

yellow is the color that wont get me killed in compton?
is it hard to get around in LA everything seems so far away.. i'm gonna be in long beach area.. =P

mmm.....i'm not sure. either they'll see yellow as neutral, or the bloods and the crips will see it as a challenge to their authority....
hmmm long beach...that's sort of far from everywhere...
